Grip strength is one of the best single measures of overall health and longevity. Research shows that weak grip strength is a stronger predictor of mortality than blood pressure. Average grip strength for men is about 46 kg and for women about 29 kg.

Why grip strength matters
A Lancet study of 140,000+ adults found that every 5 kg decrease in grip strength was associated with a 17% increased risk of cardiovascular death. Grip strength testing is now recommended as a routine vital sign by some physicians.
